I like to use Hootsuite for managing Twitter accounts, both on my PC and Droid. It just works so well and is easy to use.
I just ran into a situation where I scheduled a message and then wanted to unschedule it. I got thrown for a bit of a loop when trying to figure out how to unschedule a message with Hootsuite, so I thought I’d share the solution just in case anybody else ran into this one.
It’s actually pretty easy. But it’s not as obvious as a single button on the dashboard.

One of the recurring battles in my career has been keeping my eyes healthy while having to stare at computer screens for days on end.
Working a lot with many different aspects of the Internet and computers requires a person to stare at computer screens. I’m sure you are aware of that if you work in computer technology related fields.

I’ve had to develop certain habits to keep myself from constantly straining my eyes, and reducing my overall visual health. It’s not easy to focus (no pun intended) on good eye health, but once you start to experience some of the negative effects of staring at computer screens for long periods of time you will start to think about it more.
Here’s what I like to do to keep myself from straining my eyes from day to day:
- If my eyes feel tired, or if I feel like I’m squinting a lot or having a hard time focusing, I’ll simply walk away from the computer and do something else for a while.
- I try not to stare at a screen for more than 30 minutes to an hour at a time. I still lapse on this one every once in a while, but it helps to take lots of short breaks from the screen.
- I try to position the monitor so that it’s just below my eye level. Both my home and office PC monitors are sitting on top of a riser to keep them just below my eye level at my desks.
- I try to use high-quality monitors with crisp views and good contrast. Older monitors, expecially CRT monitors, were very much more harder for me to stare at for a long time than the new LCD monitors.
- I try not to work at the computer in a completely dark room – it seems like when I have lights on at the desk, and in the office room, it makes the screen less intense and easier to look at overall. The light doesn’t have to be really bright, but it needs to be enough that the room is not in complete darkness with the computer monitor being the only thing projecting light into the room.
- I try to get outside a lot and try to focus my eyes on things in the distance. Human eyes are intended to be able to see details at a distance, not to look at computer screens. Give your eyes a little bit of what they are intended to be used for to keep them from straining.
- I take vitamins and supplements that encourage eye health, such as Vitamin A, Bilberry, Lutien, Selenium and Chromium. I always take a multi-vitamin every day and also supplement that with Bilberry every day. The others I mix in periodically.
I also notice that if I’m tired, I really have a hard time focusing on computer screens. I really try to avoid staying up late to work since I have to be at the office at 8am with my current daily gig. I have to force through it a lot, but try to avoid losing sleep whenever possible at this point.
Really what it just comes down to for me is this: if my eyes feel strained, I get away from the computer and try to give my eyes something more natural to look at. I would encourage you to do this as well, to keep your eyes from wearing out, if you use computers a lot.
